The affidavit must be signed and notarized to be considered for nomination, as well as include a pertinent resume and photo. Declaration of Candidacy for the 2010 Special Election can be found at the ApHC official Web site, www.appaloosa.com. ApHC BOD Meeting Recap

As always, there was a lot of ground covered at the ApHC Board of Directors meeting held last weekend at Bedford, TX. There are a few things of note:
  1. Regional Experience Shows - Keep watching the ApHC website for the announcement of the Regional Experience. This will be a pilot program in 2010 for 3 shows chosen by a list of criteria (to be posted on the website) and is expected to expand in 2011 to 18 shows (one in each zone in the US). The bare bones are: program limited to regional clubs only; preference to struggling clubs/areas/states in terms of registrations, transfers, memberships; preference given to 2 or more clubs combining forces; showbill must include 5 or more All-Breed YOUTH classes; ALL youth classes show free (both entries and national point fees). The ApHC will help support the show by providing $2400 for 2 judges expenses. The show can have 2-4 judges. Deadline for 2010 application is 4/15/10. Don't miss out!!
  2. Novice Youth by Class has passed it's first vote. It closely resembles the Novice Non-Pro program: max of 20 points in each class prior to pointing out; all points tabulated on Jan 1 of each year. This will be voted on a 2nd time at the Nationals BOD meeting for inclusion in the 2011 rulebook.
  3. Novice Youth Ownership Proposal - This proposal passed it's first vote (2nd will be at the Nationals BOD meeting for the inclusion in the 2011 rulebook). Under this proposal, ALL points irregardless of horse ownership earned in Novice Youth will be counted toward Novice Youth eligibility. However, any points earned on non-family owned horses will not be counted towards the Year-End Awards or Lifetime Achievement Awards.
  4. Registration Rule Change - This proposal has currently passed it's 2nd vote for inclusion in the 2011 rulebook. It is very important to note what it will allow:
    * QH x QH DNA parentage verified horses with characteristics or coat pattern will qualify for FULL registration in the ApHC
    * ANY combination of QH, TB or Arab parentage verified horses that have charateristics or coat pattern will qualify for FULL registration in the ApHC
    * Two (N) registered parents that produce a colored foal - that foal will be allowed to be registered
    * (N) x QH/TB/Arab that produce a colored foal - foal will be allowed to be registered.
  5. Fee changes will take place next year for:
    * Stallion reports $25 + $5
    * Rush - 48 Hour $100, 10 day $50
    * Lease - $20
    * Non Appaloosa DNA listing fee - $20
    * Approved Outcross Listing - $20
    * HYPP testing $50
    * Blood Typing $125
    * Tattoo Fee $20
  6. Performance Permit Program - This proposal will shift the fee increase from 13 months of age up to 25 months of age. No changes in fees were discussed. This passed it's first vote with the 2nd vote scheduled for the Nationals BOD meeting.
If any member or regional club would like to weigh in on any of these items, please feel free to contact me!! If any member or regional club would like to ask about my vote on any of these issues, please feel free to contact me!!

National News

Dear ApHC Regional Clubs

The ApHC Board of Directors has approved effective immediately, an increase of the number of qualifying nominations for the World Championship Appaloosa Show from one nomination to five in each class.

Rule 703.A.1.
"Under the regional club system, a regional organization officially recognized as an affiliate in good standing with the ApHC may qualify only one up to five of its top five horses for the World Championship Appaloosa Show in each class. In order for a regional club to be eligible to nominate horses for the World Championship Appaloosa Show under the regional qualifying system, that club must have sponsored, pointed or co-sponsored at least one ApHC-approved show in that qualifying year and that regional club may only nominate horses in classes in which such horses exhibited in that club's sponsored, pointed or co-sponsored show."

In order to complete this process for this year, regional clubs will submit your regular nomination packet listing your top 5 horses in each class. All of the top 5 horses will be eligible to receive a World Show invitation in that class unless they have previously qualified through the national point system or from another regional club. World qualifying packets will be available for download on the regional club page of the ApHC website.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
