Farewell
By Debbie Ryan May 7, 2004
It is with a heavy heart that I write to
tell you of the passing of Sherri Tissing. As many of you know, Sherri has been
battling cancer for some time now. She finally lost that fight on Wednesday,
May 5, 2004. Sherri passed away peacefully at home in the company of her
husband, Jeff; son, Range mother and dogs.
Sherri has been a lover,
breeder, competitor and promoter of the Appaloosa for many, many years. In
addition to being a formidable presence in Trail and Showmanship, she competed
in Halter, Equitation, HUS, and other disciplines. She loved a good horse and
the people who loved them.
I personally have only had the honor of
knowing Sherri for the past 6 years. Most of you have known her much longer and
can probably tell of her accomplishments in greater detail than I. I know that
she had multiple World and National titles to her credit. Sherri was a tough,
keen competitor but always competed with sportsmanship and generosity. There
was no doubt that she was in the pen to win, but wanted her fellow competitors
to be at their peak as well. Sherri was full of encouragement and would
celebrate others accomplishments with enthusiasm.
Sherri had the gifts
of energy, focus, vision and determination. She used these talents in many
aspects of her life. As a partner to Jeff, they built a successful security
business. As a member and director of the Dal-Worth Club, she took on the role
of Public Relations Sherri worked tirelessly to find sponsorships, initiate
activities to create enthusiasm, promote the club and increase attendance at
the shows. No one in recent history has raised funds, whether by sponsorships
or silent auctions, to benefit the club to this level. Sherri sincerely wanted
Dal-Worth to be a premier club.
I don't know that I am the best person
to write this or that I have begun to do justice to Sherri's contributions,
accomplishments, or her life. I do know that I am blessed to have known her and
shared the good times. I will miss her dearly, as will many others.
A
memorial services is being held Saturday, May 10th at Jeff & Sherri's
residence in Lucas, Texas. Please include her family and friends in your
thoughts and prayers.
